Name: Mark
Alias: ---
Series: Fire Emblem (7: Blazing Sword)
Age: 18 19
Birthday: January 15th
Alignment: Neutral Good
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Likely Heterosexual
Species: Human

Appearance: [Well, his photobase is Spada from Tales of Innocence, but it's worth noting that Mark isn't quite as built as Spada and his hair and eyes are different colors] Mark has dark brown hair which goes down to a nearly his shoulders and hazel eyes which shine with a bright and innovative youthful intellect. Still, this is counter-acted by the small bags under his eyes which show the weariness of the campaign he's been on for the last few months. His build is slim and barely pushing 5'5, but had pretty much nothing in the way of muscle on it -- Mark couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag for any of his occasional boasts. His hands are without callouses, but his look down show a general weariness of the world once you get over how young he looks -- for, even for eighteen, he does look rather youthful (or at least, he did, prior to this campaign -- he hasn't had the time to examine himself since, and doesn't really care to). In terms of clothing, he prefers to be well-dressed, but he's gotten used to being on the road -- his only constant companions are his neat little hat and his dark green traveling cloak, in which he keeps all his documents and notes stashed.

Personality: [Note: Mark has no canon for him -- even his name and gender are variable in the game. It might be best to consider him an OC.] Mark is skillful, witty, and more than a bit idealistic. He's calculating, and hates the loss of life. He is on-level most of the time, and almost never completely losses his cool -- he feels that he can't afford to, because peoples' lives depend on him. At heart, he is still somewhat youthful, and due to his upbringing tends to be extremely polite to everyone until they prove that they're cool with him being laxed around them or they don't deserve it.

He has a tendency to overwork himself, hiding it behind his youthful looks and pushy little smile. Outwardly, he can come off as arrogant, and he probably is more than a bit (or at least, he is very sure of his own abilities. He never really boasts without provoking). In reality, however, he merely want to prove himself to himself, and to him so long as he can keep his people alive, whatever complaints he gets from people not in his company don't matter that much. This is not to say he doesn't take advice through -- far from it. Though he will sometimes seem not to listen, Mark always listens to anything he can, and uses that as he can for the benefit of his forces.

History: [Note: Mark has no canon for him -- even his name and gender are variable in the game. It might be best to consider him an OC.] Mark was born in Pherae, one of the districts of the Lycian League to a relatively small family. He grew up under his merchant father and his teacher mother -- naturally getting oneof the best educations possible in his village, as well as living a very decent life. That was until around age ten--- During one of the very few skirmishes with Bern that existed during the rule of Eliwood's father, Elbert, Mark's father's shop was destroyed due to the incompetence of the local militia. They were being routed by the invading forces, and the knights of Pherae were still half a day's ride away -- basically, the town was going to have to surrender. Disgusted with their futile efforts, the ten year old Mark snunk into the fort and demanded to know why the commanding officer had not fared better in his strategy.

The surly old man who was far past his prime in both mental state and physical shape merely grinned wickedly at the little boy and asked him if he could do better, for Bern was going to begin the second stage of their assault. And as only a defiant ten year old could, Mark replied with dead serious eyes that he could. In the moment he accepted, Mark thought it would be no different from the strategy games he always played with his mother and school friends -- the ones he always, always won. Thus, with the commander's help, he took to the map and planned the defense of the town -- and this time, the militia held, with only minimal losses.

Here, Mark could've gone back to his mother and father -- both of whom were worried sick (as their son had been missing since the first assault). However, this marked a second turning point in Mark's life -- he turned back to the commanding officer and asked him "Why aren't you counter-attacking?" With only a child's understanding of military tactics and the very real cost of war, the young boy planned on-the-spot a brilliant counter-attack. Using only the local militia, he routed the remaining Bern forces before the knights of Pherae even showed up. The knights arrived to a bloodbath of a battlefield -- one with corpses of both sides stacked well over waist-high. Mark saw this -- and saw the burials -- with absolute horror.

He returned home to his parents, and though life became harder with the demise of his father's shop, he could've had a good life -- he was the hero of he town, something of a folk legend -- "the boy who had saved them all." He was the subject of tavern songs, and even were there tales that Lord Elbert would recruit him as a royal adviser. But Mark was haunted by the eyes of those dead men and by the smell of corpses --- and morbidly, at the same time, the thrill of winning over an enemy. The power of proving that you're intellectually better than the opposing force. He became obsessed with wargames and military history, and for five long years he worked with both his mother and the local militia to learn as much as he could. He even managed to find an old Pherae knight in a tavern one day, and for the years after that studied directly under him.

When he was fifteen, he officially challenged that elderly knight to a wargame with the wager that his victory would name him as a true tactician. What's more, he upped the ante -- he increased the bet to include his father and mother for supplies and and cart on which to travel. He anted in the militia for a small escort. In return, he held the match in the center of town and allowed all of them to charge spectators to see it. By now, legend of Mark had spread to surrounding villages, and the massive wargame (the field was about 10x10 feet wide) between him and the elderly knight became something of a festival. And though Mark even allowed his foe a handicap -- he still routed his enemy with only minimal losses to his own force.

His bet complete and his bags packed, not the next day did Mark leave his hometown after a heartfelt goodbye to his parents and his tutor -- forever. His goal was the travel the world as a tactician, honing his skills under eventually he could win a conflict without a single loss of life on his own side -- and minimal excess casualties to his enemy. For two years, he took odd jobs for local militias, working his way through the Lycian League and Bern, eventually finding his way to the plains of Sacae -- where he passed out from hunger and fatigue, due in part to a lack of war and in part to needing to ditch his cart in favor of walking due to local bandits.

It was here that he fatefully met Lyn, and ended up joining with her for her campaign against her uncle -- and a year later he met Eliwood, who he joined with to defeat Nergal, and in doing so save the world. [For more details on this, I recommend looking into the plot of Fire Emblem 7, as I don't really care to retell everything.]
And once that was done -- he had completed his conflict with absolutely no casualties to his own forces (thought quite a few close shaves and a number of near-death-incidents) -- but the loss of life in innocents his force could not save still weighed on him. He swore toe continue his efforts to discover the perfect strategy.

Interesting Information: Uh... despite looking like a shouta or some little punk, he has no fighting ability at all? Also, the heir to the throne of Pherae is his godchild? Well -- will be. Eliwood swore as much when Mark left to continue his journey (which makes it weird that he never showed up during Roy's trials in Sword of Seals, but whatever). Aside from this and the fact he managed to win a war without any notable casualties-- not really.
